The LK docked with the LOK in orbit around the moon on return from the surface. To make docking easier, the docking interface had multiple targets, so less percison was needed. However, as the LK/LOK didn't have a entry tunnel when locked like the LM/CSM, this meant the lone cosmonaut had to make a spacewalk (or EVA) from the LK to the LOK if he or she wanted get back to Earth.

Check out this as it ascends to high altitude and into space later in the video. It is the successful falcon 1 launch. This is a different fuel mind, so there will be some differences. But you need air pressure to produce a column of gas like you see in this animation.

Yes, it is funny how something fake can look more real then a real thing. Unfortunately the laws of physics and chemistry for the type of fuel used by Apollo, means that reality just doesn't MAKE visible flames in a vacuum. Check out the Falcon 1 launch to see how rocket exhaust spreads out and becomes transparent in a vacuum.
