she should have had waay more practice but that was pretty good for seven weeks!
-
really amazing for a rider who's only been riding for 7 weeks!! i'm impressed! 5*

Go Peyton goooo!! Lets kick some butt during the derby this year too!! Haha, lovesssss
-
omg its gd that she managed to do that after 7 weeks but it was far too soon i think so anyway

What an honest horse! Good job for only riding for 7 weeks! I learned to canter and jump at a horse camp when I was twelve too!

I'm not saying that any of Peyton's equitation problems are unfixable, or even uncommon given the amount of time she has been riding. But as a horse trainer & instructor of over 20 years, I can tell you that encouraging her to ride in the way that she did at this Derby will absolutely do her no favors & will ultimately get her injured if she continues to push for advancement without first solidifying her basics.

She sits her saddle like shes in an armchair, w/her leg loose, swinging, & way too far forward. Her two-point doesnt allow enough free movement of the horse's back, nor enough release in the rein. She also sits very heavily & abrasively, driving her mount with every step, which cannot be comfortable for the horse. Now that horse is worth its weight in gold. Its him & him alone that got her thru the course clear, enduring her hard seat & hand with a forgiving nature that many horses would not.

Wow, she is going to be a VERY good rider down the road. Tons of natural talent.
And what a good horse!! haha. The only thing I would say is that the horse looks lame behind. But perhaps it's an older horse who just goes and does its job.
this girl is very lucky her pony is so well behaved. I have taught riding lessons in jumping and dressage for almost 6 years (since i was 17) and I would never let anyone who has only been riding for 7 weeks jump a horse, no matter how "gifted" or "talented" they seem. i am definately a natural with horses and after riding for only 2 years, i was jumping 3'9" but i did not do any jumping at all for almost a year. i did lots of ground poles and work on my seat and 2 point.

Eventerjazz6 is certainly welcome to her opinion. Some trainers believe in doing no jumping until a rider is fully trained on the flat. At Longacres we believe otherwise, and teach jumping right along with flat work from the very beginning. We're very proud of Peyton's accomplishments last year, and will soon post another video of her more advanced riding this season at Longacres Riding Camp.

Watch the video closely - she does have a crop and uses it a couple of times. Nice job!

I dispise that so much.
No, i didn't say her. I said THAT. As in, I have been practicing NONSTOP for like a year and I am still on 1 foot jumps. D:< *feels anger*
But you did nice.
