I am a former NUMMI line worker (ex UAW) and couldn't be any happier that the place shut down. I am on my way toward getting my engineering degree, my grades speak for themselves. I needed it to shut down in order to pursue my career goal, and have time for school. I hope my fellow co-workers are doing the same.

"We are caught in economics and thats something we have no control over ". Complete hogwash. UAW could have made NUMMI viable for Toyota if you would accept lower wages and do away with your crippling work rules.

I applaud Toyotas decision to shutter NUMMI and add capacity in right to work states at new non-union facilities. The UAW is the crux of the issue and the members are both greedy and out of touch. Toyota did the best by giving these workers a rude awakening.

* The only Toyota factory with UAW workforce.
* The first and only Toyota factory to close its doors. Ever.
Draw your own conclussions.
Oh, and those "wonderful" California endless legal regulations for this and that...

I just heared it in the news Nummi plant is closed today. It happened on April 01, 2010. Is this a April fools day prank? So many business are closing. Even the Hollywood video stores are also closed where you rent videos. I heared 1000 video stores are closed this year.
Love without License.

Toyota is not to blame, neither is the administrator. However, another administrator could have taken care of the members and convinced Toyota of the advantages. Either way Nummi made an awesome custom truck for me. I am sorry to see you guys go.

AT 5:20 Union never had problems with Toyota???? Come on man, you just lied. I used to tell people that Union will be the cause of this place shutting down,and im a lien worker also. Union keeps helping people that dont want to work, and keeps asking nummi for more money.

@frankiej510 Dude, you cant just keep blaming toyota, if GM had not pulled out of nummi, they would not shut it down. Also, its the Unions fault, because they always helped people that didnt want to work, some people would take 3 bathroom brakes each time up to 20 minutes, so they were in the bath room almost an houre a day, come on man there is more to this.
toyota moved its production of tacomas to its new plant (3yr' old plant) in Texas because;
1) its cheaper to operate in Texas.
2) non-union labor
3) the politicians in Texas are offering more incentives than the politicians in California are offering, or ever could offer.
also the plant in Texas is owned by Toyota, nummi is only a contracted partnership...
