Such a moving film, I bought this on a whim months ago and was in tears by the end.

What a contrast in spirit. Big Edie, self-centered, narcissistic, always crictical of her daughter, and Little Edie who was so giving, saw good in everything, and was totally devoted to what appeared to be a very ungrateful mother . Little Edie seemed happier in her humble existence than most people who have everything.

Fascinating film

I completely agree about Little Edie. When she tells them that someone told her that she was schizophrenic, they, like a lot of people, tell her it means split personalities, which is not what schizophrenia is at all. You can definitely tell by the disorganization of her speech and how quickly she can change from one subject to another, extremely unrelated topic that she was most definitely schizophrenic.

schizophrenia is not that easy to diagnose. unless your a psychiatrist its not very likely you could properly diagnose someone as schizophrenic just my they way they talk or act. it could be number of things.

From what I read, the living conditions were worse than a third world country. Big Edie slept on a bed that the cats had used as a litter box---and where a few cats had died too---and sang them opera all day long. The camera crew had to wear flea collars around their ankles just to get inside the compound.
