Deep within my heart lies a melody,
A song of old San Antone.
Where in dreams I live with a memory,
Beneath the stars, all alone.
Well it was there I found, beside the Alamo,
Enchantments strange as the blue up above.
For that moonlit pass, that only he would know,
Still hears my broken song of love.
Moon in all your splendor, known only to my heart,
Call back my rose, rose of San Antone.
Lips so sweet and tender, like petals falling apart,
Speak once again of my love, my own.
Broken song, empty words I know,
Still live in my heart all alone.
For that moonlit pass by the Alamo,
And rose, my rose of San Antone.
Broken song, empty words I know,
Still live in my heart all alone.
For that moonlit pass by the Alamo.
And rose, my rose of San Antone.
And rose, my rose of San Antone.
And rose, my rose of San Antone.
I love John Denver and his music! He was one of the best ever right up there with Bob Nolan! Thanks for posting this. I would like to say to musicmandon1 that John Denver's father was a US Air Force pilot and taught John to fly. John was an experienced pilot but made a mistake that day and didn't put more fuel in the tanks even though he had checked them and they were low. Maybe he was in a hurry. A full account of the accident is posted on John's official website.

Planes crash, that's just the way things are.
Even planes with flight attendants.
A friend of mine knew a flight attendant who wanted to help a friend.
She took her shift. The plane she was just trying to help a friend on, was a 9/11 plane.

My honeymoon had just ended when I woke up on an October Monday morning-and heard John Denver's plane had crashed. Catastrophic, like Jim Reeves' death in the same manner. When will celebs not be given flying licenses just because they are celebs? Reeves, Denver, Thurman Munson, etc. and when will they fly with real pilots (Ricky Nelson, Patsy Cline?" If a plane has no stewardesses on it, it won't have me on it without an exceptional reason. i happen to want to live.

This is a song I grew up listening to and I never grow tired of hearing it. There are lots of people that have covered "San Antonio Rose" and they are all good ones not a bad one have I heard!
