@LightsG you can subtract 5c first if you wish, it's just easier to subtract 2c because it's the lowest number between the two.

@Mrkbballin24 you can subtract either way and still get the same answer, its just easier to subtract the lowest number from the highest.

@cgalvez7 you aren't subtracting -2, you are subtracting 2 from 5, because they both have the same variable (c). Since 2 is lower than 5, you always want to subtract the lower number from the highest. You want to get the variables, and numbers on two different sides.
