I take every thing but "germans at the pacific having a picnic" if you watch the pictures again those you call germans having a picnic are japs. The only you could accuse of being a german or having german blood is Admiral Nimitz.

Ok fill me in with the history lesson I need it. What was the situation that evolved including those people and why was there a German insignia on the plane?

Ref. Admiral Nimitz: his grandfather karl Henrich Nimitz, three older brothers an their parents immigrated from Germany to USA in the 1840's initially the settled Charleston South Carolina. Soon afterwards with a bunch of German nationals who had purchased land in Texas they arrived in 1846 and founded a town with the name of Fredericksburg Texas His great grandfather and grandfather were merchants marines in their youth.
