It isn't a matter of stupidity, it is a matter of being pre occupied and prioritizing threats.

A box that isn't moving isn't a threat and is the least of a player's worries when they have multiple enemy players shooting at them. You have to exploit the enemies priorities and be sure that you are the lowest threat so that they over look your presence.

I must say though, why didn't that guy at 1:31 just nudge the box a bit to determine its true nature? Empty ones fall apart, real ones could be hiding the SOP DESTAB they were warned about.
