33 Injured When Car Sails Into Fence at Daytona

At least 33 fans were injured Saturday during a NASCAR race when a car flew into the fence at Daytona International Speedway, hurling a tire and large pieces of debris into the stands. (Feb. 23)

NASCAR fans got what they came for...a crash. They should thank their lucky stars they weren't burned by racing fuel. That happened at Le Mans in 1955.

The 1955 Le Mans disaster occurred during the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans motor race, when a crash caused large pieces of racing car debris and burning fuel to fly into the crowd. Eighty-three spectators and driver Pierre Levegh died at the scene, whilst 120 more were injured in the most catastrophic accident in motorsport history

All 33 spectators lost all their teeth. A total of 9 teeth in fact.

Most NASCAR fans DON'T go to see crashes. They go to see the skills of the drivers trying to out maneuver each other. It's like a chess game, moving and placing oneself into a better position to win and how they do it. A lot has changed in nearly 60 yrs with the technology to protect both drivers and fans. If the safety fence hadn't been there YES there would have been deaths. There hasn't been any accident this bad in yrs. and the last death of a driver was Earnhardt Sr. over 10 yrs ago.
