@reefric lol you cant hold the worlds fastest serve in the world with a serve of only muscle. Whoever said that is an idiot...

that kind of looked like a slice

@GueorguiJoukov .....and its not a big action.. but very well disgused. look at agassi's serve also. not a big guy but well disgused also. most guys on tour can hit big returns, so pace these days doesnt scare anyone. what scares people is a big return.

@GueorguiJoukov i think disguise is more important then pace or spin.. roddick had most of his succes when he first cameon the tour. no one was used to the pace of his serve and alot of guys were intimidated. now there are pleany of guys who take on the roddick serve. just look at hewitt and federer. the win loss record says it all. sure roddicks caught up to hewitt but thats only cause hewitt has lost his weapons. now look at federer. one of the best stats in serving on tour every year and...

People think that the abbreviated motions has an influence on your swing while it barely has. Every single serve stops or slows down before accelerating when they meet the trophy pause, so what has gone before barely influence what will go on after.
It's a nice analysis; so many times we think of pace and reaction time while we forgot that a player must first read before reacting. It's also what makes a bad server, when finnaly he finally hits a good serve, being so unstoppable.

Technically superior... can we consider disguise a technical element? If so, yes. if you speak of biomechanical efficiency, Roddick comes in front of any server in history - more spin, more pace, thus more energy.
But, it's true that Sampras' serve had this "oh shit" effect on many players, if nto all of them. There's a video of Federer doing that in 2009, Wimby. That's about as close as we can get to understand Pete's serve effect.
-
@GueorguiJoukov The fact is though, Sampras had/has a much more effective and technically superior 1st and 2nd serve than Rod and the element of not knowing where Pete placed his serve or what kind of spin shows speed/rpm doesn't matter as long as the serve is unreadable. The top 6 regardless off Roddicks serve pace gage where he hits it thus making the return on his serve significantly easier than one of a Sampras or Fed

@GueorguiJoukov he´s basically mastered his serve..
-
He has the deepest racket drop, one of the deepest need bend and he is a rare player to push perfectly evenly off both legs... Regarding uncoiling torque, he is also incredibly twisted and his toss is further back over his head than most top players.
He not only bashes 135-140mph regularly, he is also the serve with the most spin (among those with the highest pace), beating even Sampras with an avg 2400rpm off a FLAT serve...
His example could even benefit each top ten player.

Haha he never said it was the best looking, he just knows it works.
Rofl. Roddick's serve in slow motion pwns my serve in real-time.
