Clayton Carris and co-driver L.L. Whitman drove an air-cooled Franklin car from San Francisco to New York in the summer of 1904 in record time. This 8 minute video uses the pictures they took along the way to tell the story of driving across America more than 100 years ago. No gas stations. Few roads. Great adventure. It can also be viewed as of May 15, 2010, in the Franklin building at The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners Michigan. With ragtime accompaniment by Glenn Jenks.
Great show! Franklin may have had a good idea w/air cooling, but the Stanley Steamer didn't have to cool anything. The steam was red-hot, of course, and the car ran fast and silent when the steam was "up."

Awesome video...great job to all involved. My great greandfather was one of the other two involved in this trip. His name was Melvin S Bates; but his actual name was Malvern S. Bates. It was really cool to see a video and not just pictures of it. Thanks for the viewing.

What a project! Great collaborative effort between Arthur, Glenn Jenks and Jeff Bernstein. It really captures the spirit of the trip and the Franklin experience.
