Bluefinger is a nickname for the inhabitants of the town Zwolle,the Netherlands.Natal of this town was Herman Brood, the inspiration for this song. The city of Zwolle once bought a set of tower-bells from another town, they had to count a large amount of coins which gave them blue fingers

The title of this song is taken from a a painting of Herman Brood,a Dutch artist,musician/songwriter and painter.Francis made a posthume tribute to this man with this Bluefinger-song and his Bluefinger-CD. Mister Brood committed suicide on 11th of July 2001 by jumping from the Hilton hotel in Amsterdam. Black Francis only knew him by googling on the internet and got interested in the man (and inspired)
