You can walk right in front of the icebreaker on ice if you want to. As long as the helmsman sees you, the ship will stop in the ice very soon after the signal is given to the engine room.
Screaming Men ( A famous documentary film by Mika Ronkainen, 2004) has an opening scene with the very same ship, with a conductor walking in front of it. This part of the film has been showed in context of contemporary art in NYC, Budapest, Helsinki etc.
I am not entirely sure this is done "live" because it would be relatively easy to impose the walking figure of the artist onto a separate shot of the icebreaker. If it was done live, him walking in front, with a long telephoto he is certainly hundreds of yards ahead of the ship. This is not to deny that this is a compelling film and when it played during the Olympics on an outdoor screen it always made people stop and stare.

Strange to show this piece as a new creation.
