¿Hace falta presentar al genial Steve Marriott?

Stephen Peter Marriott fue actor infantil, ídolo musical adolescente con "The Small Faces" y junto al bajista Ronnie Lane compuso éxitos inolvidables como "All or nothing" (1966), "Itchycoo Park" (1967), "Tin Soldier" (1967) y "Lazy Sunday" (1967).

Hay que destacar que los éxitos de los Small Faces compitieron en los rankings de sencillos mano a mano con "The Beatles", "The Rolling Stones" y "The Animals" entre muchos otros grupos. "All or Nothing" llegó al primer lugar de las listas en 1966, "Itchycoo Park" al tercero en 1967, "Tin Soldier" estuvo en el noveno puesto en las preferencias de 1967 y el maravilloso "Lazy Sunday" llegó al segundo lugar en 1968, en plena fiebre psicodélica.

La dupla autoral "Marriott-Lane" era la más prestigiosa en el "Swinging London" detras de John Lennon y Paul McCartney, superando ampliamente en las preferencias de crítica musical a las composiciones realizadas por los Rolling Stones o los Who.

No tengo dudas de que Steve Marriott fue uno de los mejores compositores y es injustamente olvidado por los avatares de la industria musical. Pudo haber sido el cantante de Led Zeppelin en 1968 o se pudo haber unido a los Rolling Stones en 1974. Prefirió seguir su propio camino y creó Humble Pie, donde pudo expresar su peculiar visión sobre el rock, el blues y el soul.

  • My guess Steve had some "black coffee" more than once and his back up singers looked like they dug Steve Marriot and you got to give it to him how many true rockers would expand or could expand music styles . He was one of a kind ....
