Steven Koonin, Chief Scientist for BP & Professor of Physics, Caltech

The world's demand for energy will grow by some 60 percent in the next 25 years. Satisfying that demand in an economical and environmentally acceptable manner is one of the most significant challenges facing society. New technologies will play a central role in meeting this
challenge, albeit conditioned by the economic, social, and political contexts in which they are developed and deployed. The presentation will focus on the major forces shaping the World's energy future and the technologies required to respond to them.

  • Great speech

  • she is very goofy!

  • BP backround does seem iffy, but he sounds reasonable and actually strongly advocates the one source his company will NOT be able to touch (nuclear) while his company has billion dollar investments in for an example solar. So I think he might be quite legit actually.

  • Now he is Assistant Secretary and Chief Energy Scientist for DOE.. Beware the prophet that stands to profit .

  • Does anyone find an ethical dilemma when a energy company like BP employs a distinguished pitch man, like Steve Koonin, to go around selling the dire energy situation the world faces? Koonin gives "credibility" to the story , and people buy it. People take his forecasts as gospel or some variation of truth because of his credentials. BP reaps the rewards.

  • this is a fucking joke I'm sorry , if academia took notice of scalar field theory and magnetic generator over-unity effects , the world's energy solutions would be solved indefinitely. Take fucking notice and do the world a favor. Tesla shouldn't be known for just his AC generator

  • Very interesting if a little bleak. The last comment about this being much the same set of data we were all looking at 30 years ago rang very true. Time to start working out how to grow food in Antartica.
