There's a strong hint of the theme music from Planet of the Apes in this score. Love the music from the film Patton. And of course General Patton was a great American.

I think it's worth mentioning that George C. Scott actually served in the Marines from the closing months of WWII, up until the eve of the Korean war. So it's a vet playing one of America's most noteworthy heroes. Only fitting, huh?
