I was playing around last week on the guitar and I realised that the tune I was noodling sounded like a slowed down version of the famous 'Dixie' American Civil War song. The rest is history.

  • can i get the tab

  • @gyshalom I'm sorry but I don't have any tabs. I tuned my guitar to DADGBD to play it, if that's any use. I will have used a capo, probably at the 4th fret.

  • Wow! Another exemplary piece of clean, expressive playing. Superb!

(I have been working on my own Civil War Trilogy for a couple of years – make that 25, or however long it is since Ken Burns reminded us just how powerful “lantern slides” and pared-back musical accompaniment can be in this age of sensory overload and transience.)

  • @spring74light Thanks Geoff, Noone will believe me but the civil war series wasn't the inspiration....I was just bumbling about and suddenly thought, hang on I'm playing someone else's song here....and the pics were just something for people to look at instead of my perplexed and straining mug. Oh and I so deeply agree with you about sensory overload. Less is more. Although, that brings to mind my favourite line from Frasier....if less is more, just think how much too much would be!

  • Hey Martin, I just had another listen to this one, as it's so subtle, with a lot of stuff going on behind the melody. Really great - you've got a total knack for crafty arrangements that really enhance the tune. Unmistakable.

    Cheers,

    Jim

  • @jimguitarfan Shucks Jim! You're far too kind you know that. Thanks!
