FAWT SILO is a fixed axis wind turbine but it uses lift based props, i have playing with this idea for few years now in my head, i decided to give it a go, it is at the begining stages and there alot of mods still to be done. the idea is to take the air from horizontal to a downward direction and at the same time is to totally hide the proppeler from view.
i am hoping and predicting that it will be 60% effecient VS the HAWT.
the first step is to build one 4 times as big where the top and bottom defflectors will be 4 feet in width.

i hop you enjoy this video and not shoot me down as much. think diffrent......

  • When you put your hand in the wind area. You are mading it change. There is no real need for this. Put in a wind tunnel

  • it is always great to experiment.

  • I'm a little confused- So Fawt is Fixed axis wind turbine? Strange concept. How does this work? What's the benefits?

  • i was trying to hide the blades and at the same time be able to

collect wind from all directions in an urban setting.

I am confused myself, becasue i am still working the idea out.

  • today was the first day that i started to build on this project.

i put together the bottom section that i call "Silo" i will post a video of the first section of it.. i could not creat the funel and it was way too much money to buy it custom made. i build it in an octagon shape, soon i will post the vid for you to see it.

  • Nice idea! Yes, for a urban setting we need to hide the turbine behind deflectors or a stator. It helps to concentrate or collect the wind on a bigger surface. One could use a cone to narrow the cross section.

  • thanks.. i have put the mini plans on my site, i am still building my shed, i cant wait to start building the real deal for others to see the i dea in 8 feet high proto type, i am hoping next month i am going to start.

    thanks

  • like you see in the vid, It Did work without and of the pvc channeling, i am sure that it will work much better with the pvc. i am in the mid of building the 4 foot model, but also i am building a pole shed, crazy time crunch...just bare with me i will make it work.

  • i have all kinds of cut pvc pipes that i am going to use, i am planing to use Big O flexible pipe on all edges of strgit and round bottom deflectors deflector. also as i mentioned in the vid that i am going to use pvc to channels the wind downward.

    regards

  • Interesting idea, with a more complex shape you might even be able to start the air spinning as it enters the chamber with the propeller to make it more efficient.
