Inseperable. They couldn't get enough and they hoped there wasn't an actual limit. That first kiss sparked the love Joe had bottled up for so long and he quickly became Nick's world. Nick already was Joe's world but now not so distantly and Joe was thankful for that. They returned to school and refrained from kissing and hugging and every thing they did in Nick's bed at night.
Cutting it off with Demi had been easy and Kevin, almost. Though the awkward at the dinner table hung thick. But that's the only reason Joe would go home. Dinner. Sometimes he didn't even go home then, getting stuffed with Nick's mother's food in place of his own. Yet, his parents and brother didn't really seem to mind his absense. He'd never had too many friends and definitely none like Nick and they were all happy for him. They didn't know just how friendly they were and if they had known Joe wasn't sure just how happy they would be then. But they didn't care, they had eachother. All day. All night. Every day. Every night.
Week days. Weekends. They were together. Mostly at Nick's house for the time when his bones needed to heal, his leg in particular. Then, once he could walk and move and take care of himself efficiently they started spending more time at Joe's house. They spent time every where. Joe's house. Nick's house. School. The park. Even the forest. And especially both of their beds. The doors closed and locked. Always.
In as little as 6 weeks Nick was good as new. You wouldn't even know what had happened to him if you hadn't lived in his town. His town was small. Everyone knew. Everyone. But that didn't bother Nick either. Because all that did was distance him and Joe from everyone else. People didn't know how to handle or approach someone like him. Someone that went through the stuff that he did. So they simply...stayed away. Joe and Nick liked it that way. No people meant no prying eyes. No chances of getting caught. When they got...too close for comfort. Or well, too close for noncomfort. Either way, Joe and Nick were literally one, whole, flawless, complete being. They gave eachother everything the other one needed. The definiton of soulmates.

But nothing good lasts forever.

Joe drove down the street with his hand clasping onto Nicks. Like always. They were going to eat dinner with Nick's family. They were happy to eat but not happy for the time they had to spend not being able to be so physically together with each other. A guys gotta eat though, right? Joe was smiling. Now-a-days he always was. Joe smiling made Nick smile. So, together, they always were.
They rounded the corner to Nick's drive way and Joe parked the car before letting it die. Nick eyed the windows of the house making sure no one was looking for who just arrived before he looked at Joe and they paused for a moment before closing in to kiss for the last time for the next hour or so. Nick tried not to get carried away because he knew how easily he could...so damn easily. But apparently so could Joe. He chuckled as he pushed on Joe's chest. Pulling away. He got out of the car and waited for Joe to walk the short distance around to his side.
The door was open. Just that sight made his heart beat quicken. Why was the front door to his house open wide? He looked at Joe and Joe looked back. Suspicion colored his eyes a beautiful walnut brown but Nick couldn't get lost in them right now. He, now, didn't care for anyone but him and Joe and why the front door to his house was wide open. He grabbed Joes hand and they walked up the steps to push the door even farther open. The creaking of the hinges cut through the otherwise silent house. Why was there no sound? Where was everyone?
He was beginning to get scared but there was also another part of him that started to wake up and he wasn't sure what part it was.
Something. There was something. He didn't know what. But there was something. Something in this house. And something telling him where to go. Holding onto Joe's hand for dear life and tagging him along, he walked. He knew before he walked to the basement door that it would be open just like the front. There were no lights on.
"They're down there." Nick said.
"Who?" Joe asked. His voice wavering.
But Nick didn't answer. He stepped down onto the stairs and into the darkness.
