You can sense the true spirit right here...Let us gather our hearts in the dark and cold... Okay, this is Sentenced which was formed in Muhos,1989. They had started out with names like "Embalmed","Utmost Deformity" and "Deformity". Sentenced followed the footsteps of fellow finnish bands like:Abhorrence,Funebre and Swedish and American bands like Obituary,Death and Entombed (Those bands defined their sound but Sami Lopakka has stated that his favourite band was at the time Slayer and Miika Tenkula's favourite band was Iron Maiden).

They recorded their first demo "When Death Joins Us" in 1990. At the time the line-up was: Miika Tenkula,Lead Guitar and Vocals. Sami Lopakka,Guitar. Lari Kylmänen,Bass. Vesa Ranta,Drums.

They recorded the second demo "Rotting Ways to Misery" with the same line-up. Thrash Records which was a french label, offered a (bad) record deal. They recorded their first album "Shadows of the Past" in 1991 (Taneli Jarva who is Miika's cousin, replaced Lari Kylmänen on Bass). Later to regret the deal,Sentenced left the record label.

They recorded the promo tape "Journey to Pohjola" in 1992,which was sent to all kinds of different record labels. Finally Spinefarm (which was at the time really small, they had Beherit for example) called them up.

They recorded the technical and melodic masterpiece "North from Here" in 1993. Miika, who wasn't interested anymore in singing, made Taneli the bands frontman.

The EP release "The Trooper" had an Iron Maiden cover, one song from "North From Here",One song from "Journey To Pohjola",and one new song. Released in 1994.

And finally "Amok" which is considered their best album, was released through Century Media in 1995. They put out an EP "Love & Death" which followed the musical path of "Amok". Taneli Jarva left the band in 1995 due to "Musical Disagreements". And the rest of the history we know, they finally moved on to a more rocking sound.

February 19th,2009 the world received sad news. Miika Tenkula had passed away. He was found in his home at Muhos. May he rest in peace.

This is the legendary intro song of "Shadows of the Past". Its heavy as fuck. CHEERS, DUDE!!!

  • great song from an great album. best sentenced-album in my opinion. but that is not the cover of this album! Search up "sentenced - shadows of the past" and you`ll see that this is the wrong cover..

  • Get your shit right,dumbass.

  • so you`re saying that the album was released with two different covers or what???

  • This is the original cover. The 1995 re-release had a different one. And the 2009 re-release had a different one too.

  • And I apologize my negative approach.
