A perfect example is the energy problem. Jimmy Carter proposed alternative energy 30 years ago, and he was laughed at. Think of where we would be now if someone had listened to him that long ago. We just cannot afford to sit idly by while the rest of the world passes us up. It's not un-American, anti-American, socialist, or communist. It is the truth..it's going to be a long hard road to go down but we have to do it. It's not 1955 anymore, reality is a bit different now. Someone has to step up.

You guys are forgetting something here. The problems that face this country need some investment otherwise we are going to continue down the same road that we always have. Roads are crumbling, bridges are faltering, our education system is far behind many of the other nations', it is going to take some money to fix them. Private enterprise cannot pay for new roads, new hospitals, better education, it has to be done by the government. The reality is that we cannot afford to look the other way.

Congressman Pence's final comment was, "It may be progress that our plan is being attacked."

As usual, the most revealing comments from Republicans are the unintentionally revealing ones.

man we should all agree to split up the country and become two countries. Liberals in one the rest in the other. Let people live what ever side they decide. That would solve the whole problem. After 20 years we'll all know who can live longest and prosper most (No disrespect to Mr. Spock.) without the other. Realists, on the other hand, start with the numerical and demographic description of the uninsured that census data allow. Based on these and other data, they make policies to try to improve the lot of the country's citizens. Unfortunately realists have to compromise with ideologues to get anything done, and this leads to the bastardized 'reform' package we have today. But there is a REAL problem that needs to be solved and the House reform proposal is better than nothing.

dogcrapgreen, you correctly describe ideologues. Ideologues start first with their dearly held concepts (regardless of how these relate to reality) and then make up numbers and "facts" consistent with their preconceptions. E.g. the right-wing believes that poverty and poor health are entirely within the control of the impoverished and the sick; therefore, they insinuate that the uninsured are the lazy and illegal immigrants. This is "fact" following preconception.

1st the concept should be sound and let the numbers follow.

Obama has no sound concepts thats why he talks and twist the numbers.

and man this was just physically painful to even watch...its like your never studying classmate getting cornered by a teacher during an oral exam in front of the class...
