Sir, I agree with you entirely regarding ethnic & other rather nonsensical & primitive self-identifications. On factual self-asserted identity basis though, it is however incorrect in naming all Iranians as Persians just as it is naming all Britons as English. Iranian designates a national origin, whereas Persian designates a specific ethnic one. Through Western perception though, historically the land has been termed Persia. Asserting the name Iran internationally was purposeful.
