TACOMA, Wash. - Police who were following a swerving car found the driver dead and the passenger with a bullet wound after a gun battle early Sunday in Tacoma.
The incident began when officers received a 911 call about shots fired in south Tacoma.
Tacoma police said people in at least two cars were shooting at each other about 4 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses later said they saw two cars leave the scene of the shooting.
Police responded, and an officer saw a car swerving down a road near the scene, then stop at a dead end in the 7400 block of South Oakes Street.
When the officer checked inside the vehicle, he made a grisly discovery - the driver was dead and the passenger had a bullet wound.
The shooter remains at large.
Several people are being interviewed as part of the investigation, but no suspects are in custody.
