My First Star Encounter

I know that my story about meeting Michael J. Fox is not unique. A lot of people meet celebrities. What interests me is the uncanny feeling brought on by these encounters with people we normally know only as sounds and images on the screen. When we encounter a celebrity in person, the experience is invariably hyperreal. A person we have come to know (quite intimately, however one-sided the experience) as two-dimensional and purely visual and auditory has suddenly become three-dimensional and accessible to all of our senses. Someone mediated has suddenly become immediate. We have crossed over into that person's world and he or she into ours. By the way, Michael J. Fox was (and, by all accounts, continues to be) such a nice guy. I've been telling people about how I met him for over twenty-two years. Now this video can tell the story for me.
