This isn't at all what I expected. I've never read the play. But I'd heard enough about it to develop some expectations. I imagined that it would be more subtle. That we'd figure out over the course of the play that they were in hell. This seems surprisingly contrived & forced. Maybe I should read this play after I finish with "The Stranger".

This really helped me understand the play since I read it before I saw it, but I can't help but think that the lady who plays Estelle is overacting. I'm definitely no actress, but it seems a little forced to me.

Thank you for posting this though! I'm so glad to find it in English.

I like this early Sartre stuff. You are what you do, and there are no hidden potentialities. You live in the eyes of others.

I've just finished watching the 1954 version, which is excellent, and was hoping this one would be even better. I must say the actresses are better, but Harold Pinter really shouldn't act.

I think it was the Valet who was supposed to have no eyelids; Garcin was supposed to have atrophied eyelids

I'm trying to imagine all of the things that happened after they finished laughing at the end. I'm betting at some point the dude and the blonde agree to tie up and gag the dyke, since she seems to be the only one who actually gets off on cruelty.
