Scene from the film 'West Beirut' a movie made and based in Lebanon during the 15-year civil war, from 1975 to 1990. The young Lebanese boy tells his father that he is Phoenician, and not Arab. This has been proven! Culturally and genetically, we are different from Arabs. National Geographic had a 1 Million dollar genetic study to prove that the Lebanese people are the people who carry the genetic markers of the Phoenicians. As well, the Carthaginians, and people from Cyprus, Malta, Sicily and the rest of the Mediterranean islands are proven to be descendents of the Phoenicians.

There is a new study now, you can have your DNA taken and see your lineage. Check out the site below for more information:

  • I'm sicilian and maltese, and yeah, I believe that I am a descendent of the Phoenician people, but both of my islands were conquered by more than just the Phoenicians. So to say that I'm a 'Phoenician' is not entirely true. Same goes for the Lebanese guy who posted this video. We're all descended from various Mediterranean people, and depending on which region you're from, your genetic makeup will be different from the next region.

  • True, but they found a majority of us do come from the Phoenicians. As well, it was only a cultural & religious shift. If you look into our languages, we'll find our Phoenician heritage. All of us are related as human beings...

  • Ron Paul is for the people! Ron Paul for President!

  • Um. Ok. You're Phoneician. What now? What's the point? Deny being Arab, you still speak an Arabic dialect. Deny being Arab, the majority of the Lebanese population is Muslim. What does a Phoenician heritage do to ease sectarian tensions? Bring about true representative democracy? End economic inequality? Denying Arabness proves nothing.

  • Lol PhoenicianGoddess you never learn lol.

  • thats true

  • speaking arabic doesn't make of lebanese arabs , they have their own culture which is way different arab countries a unique culture in the middle between a western culture and arabic culture . early phoenicians are lebanese now and not arabs

  • I believe only 16% of the population of Lebanon are Arabs or carry the genetic marker of the (Saudi Arabians/Yemenis) known as: haplogroup J1 Y-DNA.

    The Lebanese (Phoenicians) share an overwhelming frequency of the Phoenicians' & Canaanites' Y-DNA -- known as "haplogroup J2 (M172).

    Again, the Phoenician Y-DNA is found within the muslim and christian population of Lebanon and pleaseeee nobody hates Arabs -- it's just plain stupid to say such a thing.

  • The only real Arabs, ethnically and racially, are those who descend from

    what is presently known as Saudi Arabia

    and Yemen. Pakistanis=Indo-Aryan,

    Iranians=Persian,Lebanese=Phoenecian

    Iraqi's=Assyrians,Egytpians=Coptics,

    everyone else in North Africa is Berber.

  • I cannot believe this. I saw this film yeeaars ago at the national film theatre. What an excellent film it was. I didn't realise it, but judging by the comments below it still touches on topics relevant to today.

  • PHOENICIANS (LEBANESE) GENETIC MARKER IS:

    "Haplogroup J2 (M172) Y-DNA

    Yes, we are Phoenicians, at least the majority of the population of Lebanon whether they are muslims, christians, druze, alawites, or atheists -- carry Phoenician Y-DNA.

    LEBANESE = PHOENICIANS, CANAANITES, HITTITES

  • The roots of Lebanese people are Phoenicians. After the Phoenicians, Lebanon encountered lots of civilization including the arabic ones.

    As a result Lebanon is simply Lebanese. Calling ourselves Arabs is scientifically inaccurate...

  • Abosutely true A majority of Lebanese are Phoenician NOT arab...thank you for recognising the truthhhh
