Yes, one can simply delete the old version and post new content. And changing the "master" content should auto-cascade to all groups that have an aliased-copy of that content. Am interested in hearing more of your thoughts around promoting content from one group to another? What do you mean by promoting?

Can one update content (or at least deprecate the previous version and link the most recent) ?

What about the same content in multiple groups, or managing groups within groups? A specific topic might have a group as part of a class.

What about promoting content from one group to another: a group to work through drafts and raw material leading to several finished items presented as a class or term project.

How far into workflow and coordination will rrripple go ?
