I often see Tsitsan on the Victoria Jubilee Allotments. This afternoon he honoured me with a visit as I was trying out my new heavy hoe - my azada - and even offered to have a go with it. Verdict on the azada? I wish I'd discovered it when I started getting the plot ready for planting. It's a gem of a tool. Thanks to those gardeners who recommended I get on, and thanks to the mail-order 'Getdigging' for sending it so swiftly, and thanks to my friend Robin for another good argument .

  • Your soil is quite rocky looking, I wonder is you out to try using a pronged cultivator for the primary tilling rather then your flat edged tool which get stopped and beat up by the rocks. A good 2 pronged cultivator would do you well.
