  • @shankly01 The Marauders were a copy, they were going to be trained and lead by Wingate - but that arsehole Stilwell kicked up a fuss - typical. The British SAS and Delta Force are not a good example. The US didn't look at the SAS and say - hey thats a good idea - lets do exactly the same as the British.

  • @shankly01 There was no difference. The idea was a copy, they did the same job in the same area against the same enemy and had the same objective. I cannot see any difference. The only difference was they were not under Wingates command. They also lacked discipline and loved to shoot Indians for fun.

  • @alanbstard4 All true - we can agree. But the Japanese has 3 divisions out looking for Wingate, and had the Japs had those divisions and uninterrupted supplies, they would have won at Imphal and Kohima, taken India, and won the war. They didn't because of Wingate and his Chindits.

  • @ichonoclaster Stilwell was commanded by Mountbatton. Stilwell was an arsehole anyway. But the whole idea was that the Americans would have a unit the same as the Chindits, in the same area as the Chindits, doing the same job as the Chindits. Wingate was going to train them. So they were a copy - the idea was a copy, so really I say there WERE Chindits. Merrill had a weak heart and was a sycophant to Stilwell. Hunter was a good man though, and the Marauders did well.

  • @ichonoclaster It was a joint operation, and Stillwell was under Lord Mountbatten as the second senior officer overseeing a combined US/UK operation

  • @ichonoclaster marauders were NOT Chindits

  • Orde Wingate was a religious nutcase and a self professed zionist. Jackie Coogan, the actor, Uncle Fester in the Addams family, was a US glider pilot who flew the Chindits in

  • @ichonoclaster American weren't Chindits. They were under Merrill, the " Marauders "

  • @shankly01 Stilwell was an arsehole under the command of Louis Mountbatten - so the American Chindits were under the command of Stilwell but Stilwell was under the command of Louis Mountbatten

  • @shankly01 The Marauders were undisciplined scum who loved to shoot Indians and water Buffalo whenever they were going along in a train - just for fun put the rifle out the window and shoot unarmed civilian allies - and water buffalo - and they never did too much anyway. They hated Stilwell as much as the Chindits did. Merril had a bad heart and was a useless sycophant. Hunter was a good soldier though. Many came from stockades - The Dead End Kids and were scum.
