USS Michigan (SSGN 727) recommissioned

USS Michigan (SSBN-727/SSGN-727) is the second Ohio-class Nuclear Powered Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine in the United States Navy. USS Michigan was constructed at Electric Boat in Groton, CT and was commissioned on 11 September 1982. Michigan arrived in Bangor, WA on 16 March 1983 and completed sixty-six Strategic Deterrent Patrols before being refitted as a SSGN and returned to service June 12 2007.

I was on the Michigan Blue crew from 1991 to 1995 as a reactor operator. I often use my experience on the Michigan as a reference of how bad life could be. But, because of my experience on that boat, I now work at a civilian nuclear power plant. "Learning by burning" has changed my life. Keep the dive to surface ratio at exactly one.

I am glad to see this video. I served on-board this submarine with the blue crew from 200-2005. I had a blast. I miss the people that I served with. Too bad they don't have sub service in the civilian life...

wow! this video made me want to cry. the USS michigan was my husband's and my first comamnd and a big part of our navy and family life. we left he USS michigan right before it when into conversion. lots of good memories!

Frame 1:27 -- Notice the threaded holes for the eyelets so the yard crane can lift the inserts back out. Presto-Magic! Its an SSBN again! That's PLUS 4 in the SSBN category, anytime we need it! Shhhh... don't tell anybody. Its probably a big secret....
