I am starting a website called DetroitAdvocator.com. This video is the first test of a camera I acquired in order to film areas of Detroit for the website. The short ride taken in this video covers areas near Cobo Hall, Hart Plaza, part of the Detroit RiverWalk and Joe Louis Arena. More of these test videos will come.

The camera used is a GoPro HD Hero action camera, which I wore upon my head. It can record HD videos and has a 5 megapixel camera, it shoots using a wide angle lens and can be mounted to your helmet, head, chest, bike, car and other places using different mounts. I have a lot to learn about video production and it seems I need some new equipment and programs for editing.

DetroitAdvocator.com will devote a lot of time to displaying positive aspects of Detroit, including its more festive and popular landscapes. While the blight of Detroit certainly will not be ignored on the website, its beauty is usually ignored everywhere else. Most stories about Detroit today cover its decay, especially in the national news. If they wanted to be fair, they would tilt the camera 90 degrees away from that crumbling building and show the new development next door. DetroitAdvocator.com aims to show both, accurately portraying the situation while helping facilitate opportunities to make the city better for everyone.

I have compiled a long list of ideas for the site already but If you have any ideas or interest in helping me with this project, or if you just have some feedback, feel free to send me a message.

Thanks

  • Thanks for this positive aspect of Detroit, today i see a documentary about Detroit on french TV, it's a very strange feeling, but i'm sure this town is goin to be THE Town, a new take off, a diffèrent model for new peoples. I hope to visit this place, but it's a very long trip for us.

I'm a longskateur from Réunion island.

(visit "ROULETTES et CHÂTIMENTS" for picts)

  • Nice to see that parts of Detroit remain good. Great shot of the river and Windsor in the distance. Hope it all gets better, people made it bad, they can make it good.
