Here's another filmed session for UK-based Cyclamen. It's always an absolute pleasure working with Hayato. These tracks were recorded at my friend Taylor Larson's new studio digs (Oceanic Recording); this is the third session that I've completed there.

I tried a really rad new camera angle but -- unfortunately -- the thing shook uncontrollably the more I played. Much of the footage is unusable; I incorporated what I could. I should have filmed myself playing a bit and checked it out... lesson learned. My apologies!

Anyway, "Thirst" will be featured (with my performance) on another unique Cyclamen EP. It is a brief, fiery tune that features some of my more intense playing. The big section in the middle promotes a tempo change but it's just a giant metric modulation. The snare roll at 1:25 is all rimshots and is excruciatingly difficult. The cymbal accents at the end transition from a quarter note pulse to 5-16 to -- once the ride is implemented -- 3-8 (or 6-16). It lends a 'widening' feeling.

  • I actually quit playing drums about 4-5 months ago after watching too much of Travis's videos. It's too discouraging to know I'll never be 1/10th as good.

  • @BlastB3atzVideos Nonsense! Pick those sticks back up and don't let 'em go!

  • Damn you for being soo goood!!!! Looks like i'm gonna have to lock myself in the studio for a few months/years to prepare for the Cyclamen album tour.....

    Keep it up dude! xxx

  • I don't understand why people drop drumming because he is so skilled. His skills are my goal.

  • It must be like a freaking dream to be the engineer/producer. It'll take like two takes for each song, at most!

  • I've always kind of wanted to do a cover of this song, but even with the drums transcribed, putting it on S2.0 is a biiiitch.

  • @BlastB3atzVideos to become "good" it takes a crap ton of Patience not just talent.

  • @BlastB3atzVideos Travis should be an example of how practicing good technique can make you a great drummer!

  • @RufMixa247 bob up and down for one meter, nod left to right for the other :)

  • why do people quit because of watching travis? Or say they could never be as good? First of all, just because you aren't as good as someone doesn't mean it should motivate you to quit. it should push you further. apply some of the techniques he uses, experiment. Don't hinder yourself. like a shirt my drum teacher had, "how do you get into charnege hall? practice, practice, practice!" do that, and you can achieve anything... except becoming immortal... practice wont help that.

  • yeah, are you originally a lefty? it seems like youve built your kit to favor that side. maybe. totally sick, man! i wish i could play completely ambidextrous.
