Richard Jefferson, a renowned molecular biologist and social entrepreneur, doubts whether social value will come out of the Transcontainer project. He fears that the researchers will get lost in the opaque world of intellectual property rights. Secondly he wonders whether the Transcontainer project is putting a sticking plaster over a more fundamental problem. If the public does not trust the transgenesis proces and the regulatory oversight, will the 99.9% containment mollify them? He doubts it.
