This is a 3 minute trailer I edited from a 110 minute DVD video on Backyard Food Production which I produced for Marjory Wildcraft. Marjory wrote and is featured in the program, which covers water, gardens, raising and butchering rabbits, poultry, perennials and much more. The how-to video is useful for beginners and veterans alike, with scads of good tips. It also ships with a supplemental CD, chock full of reference materials. The DVD can be purchased from Marjory's website at www.backyardfoodproduction.com.

  • If you only worry about the rabbits, it must be because they are the cutest, which is a very limited basis for judgement on what animals should live freely or be used as a food source. Why are chickens different, for instance? Just a thought. Also, they are not being 'tortured'. Domestication is a symbiotic relationship. Humans offer them plentiful food, protection from predators, and great care during their lives...Have you ever watched the Discovery channel? Life in the wild is much crueler!!

  • There is always room for all God's creatures....right next to the mashed potatoes!

  • super film

  • @daylanrayne Because they feed you. Theirs is the ultimate sacrifice, even if involuntary. Least you can do is give them a decent life before you eat them.

  • Looks good, I like my rabbit fried and the feel of my rabbit fur slippers and mittens.

  • @daylanrayne Hey, I think/hope you are responding to someone else. :) I was defending you raising rabbits for food.

    Anyway, Merry Christmas.

    Pat

  • @pnolans Sorry that's hutches

  • @pnolans Dude these are meat rabbits not pets ,their sole purpose is to be eaten do i have bigger hunches then her ?..uh yeah but it makes no difference most of them are eaten within a year to two years so why pamper them excessively.

  • how do you keep 3 does in one cage? I have yet to see 2 does that can be kept together once they reach breeding maturity... even sisters. Any tips? I raise a couple of meat rabbits but mainly show stock. Do you separate the does when it is nesting box time?

    Thanks!

  • Poor defenseless bunnies??? Do you live in a shell? Have you been outdoors where wild bunnies live? Or squirrels? They don't have a retirement home for old bunnies , or deer, or squirrels. They are prey. SOME predator is going to kill them, then eat them. Fact of life. Whether a fox, or coyote, or wolf, or snake or something else. Some die of disease, a LOT of rabbits get hit by cars, there may EVEN be some that make it to old age. But very few.
