The ESB has put in charge points for Electric Cars (Vehicles)(EVs) around town. Here are three of them. Two on Fitzwilliam Street, one on Adelaide Road. This is April 2010.

  • Found the answer via elektromotive website:

The yellow bit it where your swipe your tag

Would have been good if they had somewhere to coil excess cable.

  • @cianof I actually thought the yellow bit might have popped out for the cable to go on. not that I know what the cable even looks like. damned mysterious electric cars of the future. if anyone actually owns one, feel free to also comment.

  • @thebettyfordclinic I was thinking the same. elektromotive website has the charge point instructions.

I own an electric van. I've been driving it for the last 3 yrs (van is 11 year old now). Van is a Citroen Berlingo Electrique (E500).

  • @cianof nice! I'll have to keep my eyes open for a citroen on fitzwilliam with a wire coming out of it!

  • Great to see charge points.

What's the yellow strip at the side of the charge point?

The spaces should be reserved for EV use only. Hopefully the fix this soon.

  • @cianof alas, I have no idea what the yellow bit is for. without a tag they do very very little. if anyone knows how they work feel free to comment...

  • Charging units are to be placed at Charging Stations. Do not place them on our curb sides and public roads. Wires hanging around looks sloppy.

  • these charge stations are great things but the problem is that the main electric car there is the G-wiz that costs the same as a fiat panda while the G-Wiz is a 40mph 40mile range legless for the back death trap. Only if GM didn't get rid of the EV1 and that is better than he G-Wiz in every way.

  • bettyfordclinic, what level are these chargers...2 I'm guessing? how much are they?

I like them very un obtrusive

  • You need to own an EV before you can register for a tag. The tag is linked to your electricity account. The registration page is on the ESB website in the ecars section.

There's another charge point at mmc controls too, in dublin 22.
