Waiting for Colonel Parker

The man who became famous for being Elvis Presley's manager, has hardly ever been portrayed in a positive light. Colonel Tom Parker is considered to be a crook, a haggler and by some the man who was responsible for the fact that Elvis died at the early age of 42. In the eyes of many people, Parker even became one of the largest and insolent crooks in American history, by continuing to act as Elvis's manager even after his death.

But... was Parker really the swindler he was alleged to be? Were lies and deceit the only things that enabled him to continue being the manager of the King of Rock 'n' Roll for 27 years? A face that reappeared again and again, until it would never fade away from our memory? Was Elvis the only one who deserves merit for this? Or did the Colonel also play a part in it? And which part did he play? And above all: what kind of man was Colonel Thomas A. Parker in real life?

Colonel Parker

  • why has lamar fike got a poster of albert goldmans terrible book on his wall? is he proud of his contribution or what?

  • That lady is Joan Deery (sp?) who worked for RCA Victor

  • who is the woman at the end of this clip?

  • Nobody likes Colonel. Because he misled Elvis Presley years. He was liar, greedy, double-dealer man. Go to the hell.

  • Elvis never left Parker due to contract loopholes, he would have had to pay the colonel more money then he had.

  • Tom Parker agreed that he had NEVER touched Elvis' music issues. NEVER...

  • the colonel made elvis up but killed him at the end. elvis should had left colonel P after he made all those movies. he be still alive today.

  • Everybody blame the colonel, myself included, yet,it was Elvis's fault as well.People need to realize that Elvis was a human being,a man,and that brought ELVIS Brought upon himself. It was ultimately Elvis fault for not standing up for himself.Blind faith.

  • I think the Colonel was a money grubbing, back stabbing, lying bastard who scammed money from the books. He used Elvis like sooo many others. He may have marketed Elvis, but Elvis had the talent. He shoulda stood up for himself & fired the old buzzard & gotten someone honest to manage him.

  • @haarlemmerolie I'm sorry but that is just stupid, nobody was interested in col. tom, he didn't make Elvis, Elvis was THE KING! then, now and forever. Could things have been better? Yes of course, but it was HIM the people loved, not parker.
