Assuming you havn't a solution yet, have you tried moving the player to a 3rd-person position behind the airship and makign them invisible, then towing them along with SetPos, so in effect you're using the player as a camera (maybe use a body double at the helm if it's visible).
Then when the player wants to stop by pressing whatever key it swapso ut the body double and puts them back on the deck and restores alpha on them

I have no idea how to fix this, but I must say; that airship looks great! Is this a new mod? Or is it a part of your ''lost dwarf city'' mod, that you were woking on?

It's supposed to be part of my Griffon Fortress mod, but there'll be a standalone version in any case.
