Dick Cully has great hands but no creativity. A great single stroke roll and left hand-bass triplets that he beats to death endlessly in his solos. He has his suporters but no one can seriously even begin to put him in the same class as Buddy. He has captured some of his moves and played some of his easier charts. Can't see him doing West Side Story or Time Being. A good drummer but a little dillusional about his abilities and his comparison to Mr. Rich. No need to be mean. Is what it is.

This concert remembers everything! It was then that Buddy Rich played on a paddle steamer that went around in Stockholm harbor. :-)

Not nearly as fast as the Des Moines big band played it last night with Rob Scheps and Greg Gisbert. Holy cow, what a pleasure to play with those guys!
