there were actually two GONG show theme songs.

@sammyreed IIRC they had acts like unknown comic that were cut off before they were scored or gonged-those were the "non-contestant talent....they were neither scored OR gonged...the gonged acts were real..

The absolute best part of the show was when Chuck Barris loses his mind at the end when the band starts with the "Gene Gene the dancin' machine" song and then the panelists dance...especially Jaye P Morgan!!! She was hot back then!!!

"Any act not given the opportunity to be judged and scored featured non-contestant talent."
In other words, the "fake" ones - Unknown Comic, Lollipop Sisters, whatever - were the only ones that were gonged.
From what I understand, it didn't start out that way, though. Anybody could get gonged in the beginning.
