@sydgerald Yeah you may be right, still it doesn't seem like a good example of the filter, or perhaps it does, perhaps 1.2 is really that ineffective.
If you look closely, the grass gets darker just to a certain point. I'm guessing that he put the filter way down to that point hence the grass getting darker in that area.

I know what you mean, now thinking about it. Is a 1.2 so is quite dark and also a hard edge, so probably that's why it covers so much in the picture.
I bought a kit, .3, .6, and .9 soft edge, and they're not as dark as this.
