Supplemental Glaze Video: 365 Days of Clay Cups
Trying to pick colors is one of the most difficult parts of the ceramic process for me. (Here are the results: http://youtu.be/n2H4Njg0luY) I love to see shapes and forms...but colors...difficult.... I won't do this for ever cup, but decided if I posted the 1st 4 cups and asked to hear your input on how you select glazes..it may help me for future cups!
INPUT ALWAYS APPRECIATED!
Thanks ~ Tammy Jo
Ponderings
Cup 1 - Duncan "Turkish Coffee" & "Downright White" (Idea Credit - Janice the Potter suggested Tenmoko which I have in ^6 so the Turkish Coffee was the closest I had in low fire option)
Cup 2 - Duncan "Amber" Art Glaze
Cup 3- Spectrum "Lime Green" (possibly with black handle foot)
Cup 4- Either Amaco "Textured Amber" or Amaco "Old Pewter" . this is a low fire glaze and the cup is stoneware...
No wonder you are in glaze color madness! But, this is a learning year, with all things clay!
Re: the lime cup, sure, a somewhat fiesta ware look!
Also, when you are using 'non-food safe' glazes, perhaps putting a mark of some sort with and underglaze or oxide on the bottom of the mug, just to make sure that if they are later sold or gifted, they wont be used for the wrong purpose.
Happy glazing, Sharon

@SharJoyC Good idea about marking the bottom of the cups so keep track if they are food safe...maybe I'll use an underglazed "X" Yes, you're right, I love learning something new...especially with clay!

Wow! Lots of glazes. My motto is keep it simple & keep it safe. So, what happens if you use a glaze on a pot that is not the correct cone? Does it melt, look underfired, or explode? Just kidding. Can't wait to see your results. Janice

@janicethepotter Yes, keep it simple, I'd so love to do that :) ! A couple things will happen (exploding wouldn't be one of them...LOL!) Underfired clay, but the glaze will look great, Clay fired to maturity, but the glaze would be over fired and I have no idea what it would look like...never tried it! I have tried some of the Duncan 06 glazes at ^6 and their color changes...I also have a chart that tells me what to anticipate if the low fire glazes are high fired :) Gonna rethink chunky cup!
