  • Viewers should be warned: this video is long on preliminaries. However, I thank its producers and participants for the following insight: the most satisfactory writing, appears to result from sensitive, experienced human judgement exercised in different ways at different points in a writing process, and most productively in the presence of a caring and curious audience.

  • I think those criticizing the research these men do must as a preliminary both state their area of research and a concise explanation of why it's more important.

  • Elbow, Hillocks, and Bazerman have done a great service to the field of composition, teachers of writing, and their students. Chuck's comments on writer's making local judgment (around 21:00 minutes) point to the difficulties involved in writing research.
