After Hurricane Dean brushed Jamaica, the Pegasus Motel in Kingston caught fire. It took 30 minutes for the local fire dept. to show up. Here is 9 minutes of the mayhem. Staff workers are desparately trying to hook up hoses to fire hydrants and a guy in a red shirt is trying to find his daughter inside on the 3rd floor only to be driven back by the intense smoke. Stay with it as it gets really intense a few minutes into the video.
This is the worst example of Fire fighting I have every seen in all my years. I should have retired earlier from FDNY and return back home to Jamaica to teach these Firemen how thing are to be properly done. I am truly embarrassed by their performance.

No fire alarm horns sounding? Does the hotel have any type of evacuation plan? Training is a must for not only the fire department but the hotel staff. Put down the fire extinguishers and watch some video of how Chicago, New York, and Boston fight fires. Who was in charge? Ask for help as I am sure your guys could come to our fire training academies and get some ride along time. Just ask. But don't get someone killed by lack of training.

Nice guys make fun of them. Good intentions but not enough training. Air packs on arrival on your back. Ventilation get the windows out crews need to stay together and work as a team. Engine crew on the hose lines, second crew on ventilation work together at the same time, third crew search and rescue. Practice practice practice so when the real thing happens as this did you won't look like you have no idea what to do. It will come together if you train weekly. And lay off the bud!

For Sale: Jamaican Firetruck, low miles, driven only on sundays by men dressed up as firefighters to put out bongfires and hash flameouts. Negotiable in terms of Oreos and lemonade.
