LegionarioCruel Dumb? That's rather mild. Magnetic tape doesn't retain everything that is recorded on it either. It gets erased when re-recorded. Water is the same way. Unless it's fixed with alcohol & stored in milk sugar, it quickly erases. Solutes passing through it are contantly imprinting the hydrogen bond network & then being erased, as are EM signals.

The water molecule is in a constant state of change, even when its frozen, but it can retain magnetic imprinting.
