A brief travelogue, showing 5 surfers' attempts to get one of those legendarily long and powerful rides on the tidal Bore of the River Severn, Gloucestershire, England.Shot at 3 locations on the 20th and 21st March 2007
I don't think the take-off spots in those sections has changed really. Bear in mind I was following a group of surf buddies from Wales who don't know the river.
search on the net for Mark Humpage's bore forum..we'll be happy enough to advise, or look up saveoursevern with all the w's in front of it.
Don't just get in the river with a board, you need to know what you're getting yourself into. When you lose the wave, you need to be able to get out safely, and the river instantly becomes a tidal race after the wave has gone through.
It's in the county of Gloucestershire, south-west England. The wave is actually the tide moving upstream in the mouth of the River Severn. The wave happens on the biggest tides, and is best at the spring and autumn equinoxes. Although the wave is no great size compared to the sea, it is much more powerful than a wave on a beach of similar size.
Cheers SB. For anyone who enjoyed the video, or the spectacle of this natural wonder, please note that there are proposals to build a barrage across the estuary of the river to generate power. Although I support efforts to generate renewable energy, I strongly urge you to look into this. It is a very bad idea indeed, in my opinion, which will do damage beyond measure. There are easier and better ways to generate energy. Please look into this and oppose it.
Its good to look back at the older videos.Funny looking att he different take off spots that seemed to have evolved in recent years.
