pretty much the only reason i use windows now is for a shockplay game (oh how I wish there was a linux version...using it in wine is really slow for some reason) and L4D. Ubuntu is very efficient which I love, not to mention the amount of educational and useful software available free.
microsoft is corruption and the xbox 360 is two. we need a free gaming platform that is open source. twitter trend topic #microbucks read dudemans tweets on the topic. now lets turn micro$oft into micro bucks. copy and paste on 10 vids.
I'm also glad I switch to Linux Ubuntu, learning curve is tough but I'm getting to remember some sudo commands little by little, it's actually fun doing SOMETHING.
I don't play much games except RAGNAROK Online, and emulators.
I think the linux crowd is growing, linux does what the average user neesds, the only reason for me using windows are maybe 2 apps and for gaming. every thing else I do is on linux. the best thing about it is so far it just works, I have not had the need to look for drivers. and it has come along way and doesn't seem to stop anytime soon.
I downloaded ubuntu the other day, and i have to say that I am NOT disappointed. I see no reason to go back to Windows as I'm not playing video games or use Windows specific apps. Your right, the average person is far better off with linux. I've only had one driver issue and linux detected the need and automatically downloaded and installed it.
