@EvitaLovely They were trying to exploit her extreme mental and psychic abilities to make her into the perfect weapon/assassin. She was a work-in-progress when Simon rescued her. No doubt the end result of the program would have her be a much more stable killing machine.

I dont know much about Serenity or Firefly, I just saw the movie some days before. But I find it so sad that they took advantage of such a great girl like River only to make some excperiments. I mean, she seems cute and very likeable before.. But what they're trying to do? make her insane?
Anyway, I didnt know that Summer was such a nice actress, but especially about 6:35 she did a great job..

River Tam is such a tragic character. And Summer portrays her very well. I think she's pretty underrated as an actress.
