Andrea and John, in Guelph, June 2010. Sorry, the whole video didn't upload. It is supposed to have more in it.
Start with chuanzhang (with a little tricksiness towards the end on Andrea's side), then the single palm change (Andrea again adding a little extra), then the single hook (hmm, Andrea once again uses a trick John doesn't know yet). Bagua works against an opponent who is stronger than you, because you can always step or change angles. In partner training, you should cooperate to find the proper lines before playing with the other lines.
I just went through hell to re-sign-up. Now I can't get to the vidoes I posted before. Anyway, thank you for your comment sanhedao. You will notice that our stuff is done more to the side of the body than to the centre line. With the structure that we are setting up, the straight line through the body, using the fascial connections, works better with the elbow raised to shoulder height and not too twisted. When you are using the midline in xingyi, or coiling up in bagua, twisting works better.

really nice partner work Andrea and John :)
one question, in similar exercises I've done in xingyiquan and other schools of baguazhang I was taught to twist the arm more, in xingyi as in zuanquan with fist or as coiling palm in bagua. This gives a stronger structure in my experience to the forward vector trying to coil/cut in. What is the reasoning of this straight pierce?
