Update - I noticed that this link just got syndicated out again. NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO IS NEARLY 3 YEAR OLD - IT IS COMPLETELY OBSOLETE NOW!!! SYNFIG IS NOW A ONE FILE DOWNLOAD, NO TASKASSIGN NEEDED!

This is a video walk through of how to Install Synfig Studio under Windows. Total process takes about 5 minutes, including download times on broadband. If you have any questions, check out http://synfig.org or post them in response to the video. Note - the look of the Synfig website has been updated since this video was made.

Cheers,
Chris

P.S. You should also download, unzip (it's a 7zip file), and ensure that ffmpeg.exe is in a dir in your path if you want to create mpgs directly from Synfig (http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/ffmpeg.rev12665.7z)

  • Is the tom's hardware site having issues? because I can't seem to get the Download started...

  • Yes - see the update in the video description on the right.

  • I did everything in your video and even went to the website for more info, and it works splendidly. but when it says you should see three windows open up when you start the software, I get four: a DOS window. Is that supposed to happen and how can I make that not visible?

  • Yes the DOS box comes up. You can ignore it or minimize it. Closing it will finish your synfig session :) Eventually we'll have to figure out how to persuade GTK not to show it. Until then, it's useful as it shows error messages for debug.

  • what do you mean by put in a dir in my path?

    In your desc.

  • Windows has a 'PATH' Environment variable - a list of directories which it checks whenever you type a command in the DOS box or run from the start menu. If it finds an executable that matches what you typed in one of those dirs, it runs it. If not, it returns with 'not found'
