It takes time to burn the injected fuel, so a little advance gives more top end and more power it seems, but can cause overheating and wear bottom end sooner, this is why factory sets them as they do, along with max fuelling, all for reliability and mpg although a little advance improves mpg I think.
i dunno what it is but on the vws it just makes them run better, but if you go too far advanced it will run like shit too, you gotta find that happy spot which is usually near 1mm

If you "de-limit" the pump, more advance means more power at high rpms.
Since the timing is fixed, more advance makes the engine noisy and rough at low rpm.
On a stock pump (and engine), increasing the advance has only a very limited effect. Too much WILL wreck the engine....

What kind of difference is to set the pump timing to .98mm? To smooth the idling?
